Myanmar Hit by 7.7 and 6.4 Magnitude Earthquakes

A massive earthquake hit Myanmar, causing widespread panic. The quake measured 7.7 magnitude, with its epicenter near the city of Sagaing in the country’s north.
People in Bangkok, over 500 miles away, felt the tremors. Many rushed out of high-rise buildings as a precaution.

The United States Geological Survey reported the quake at 12:50 local time. It was about 6 miles deep. China’s earthquake network reported a slightly stronger magnitude, at 7.9.

A 6.4 magnitude aftershock followed, causing more tremors in Myanmar and neighboring countries.
Thai residents, especially in Bangkok, felt the aftershocks. Some people living in high-rise apartments evacuated their homes. In some areas, swimming pool water was visibly rippling.

So far, no damage or casualties have been reported from the quake in Myanmar. The country is currently grappling with internal conflicts.
