MS Dhoni's batting position under scrutiny, CSK coach Fleming explains

MS Dhoni’s batting order has been under fire lately. He batted at number nine against RCB, a move that many blamed for Chennai Super Kings’ loss. Against Rajasthan Royals, he came in at seven but couldn’t prevent a six-run defeat. Last season, Dhoni mostly batted at 7 or 8.

Batting position not the only issue

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming weighed in on the criticism. He said Dhoni’s knees are giving him trouble, making it tough to bat for long stretches. Fleming explained that Dhoni decides his own batting order, considering his physical limitations. Dhoni can’t bat for 10 overs like he used to. He assesses the situation and does what’s best for the team.

Fleming added that Dhoni usually lets other batsmen take charge when he can’t. He’s not just a batsman; he’s a leader and a wicketkeeper. Sending him in at 9 or 10 is not his usual style. Dhoni looks at the bigger picture, considering the 13-14 over mark.

Is Dhoni a burden on CSK?

At 43, Dhoni’s age is a factor. He faces fewer balls when batting. Fleming addressed concerns that Dhoni might be a burden on CSK. He emphasized Dhoni’s importance as a leader and wicketkeeper. Dhoni’s role is crucial, even if he’s not batting for long. Fleming thinks Dhoni’s experience and skills outweigh any limitations due to his age or batting position.
