Brazilian racing prodigy Diogo Moreira will join the LCR Honda MotoGP team in 2026, marking his ascent to motorcycling’s premier class as a highly anticipated talent.
The 21-year-old Brazilian, currently second in the Moto2 World Championship, was announced on Tuesday as LCR Honda’s newest rider. This move is seen as a natural progression to the top tier for Moreira, who has shown strong performances in both Moto3 and Moto2 categories.
Honda confirmed Moreira has signed a multi-year contract. Portuguese publication ‘Autosport’ reported an initial two-year deal with an option for a third season.
Moreira expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “Entering MotoGP with Honda is a dream come true,” he said. “I want to thank Honda and the team for believing in me and for giving me this incredible opportunity. I am excited to learn, grow and fight for good results in the main category of motorcycling.”
Moreira will team up with Johann Zarco at LCR Honda. He will fill the spot left by Thai rider Somkiat Chantra, who is set to move to Superbike racing after a challenging debut season.
Moreira is currently just nine points behind Moto2 leader Manuel González. Four rounds remain in the championship season.
