Morocco Dismantles Islamic State Cell Making Explosives from Pharmacy Supplies

Security Operations

A recent operation conducted by Moroccan anti-terrorist services, in collaboration with other units and the Air Force, resulted in the dismantling of an Islamic State (Daesh, Isis) cell. The cell, which consisted of four individuals including three brothers, had been preparing bombs using materials acquired from various sources, including pharmacies.

Arrests and Searches

The security operation led to the arrest of four individuals, aged 26, 29, 31, and 35, who resided in Hadd al-Sawalim in the province of Bárchid. The arrests were made in two residential houses located in Al-Omran subdivision and Al-Amal subdivision in Al-Wahda neighborhood.
During the searches, several items were found, including knives, bottles with chemical liquids and powders, and bags containing large amounts of chemical fertilizers, sulfur, coal dust, salts, and other suspicious materials. Additionally, electrical cables, welding equipment, and adhesive tapes were discovered, which were ready to be used in the manufacture of explosives.

Investigation Findings

The anti-terrorist services intercepted a video tape in which the detainees declared their loyalty to the terrorist organization "ISIS" and promised to commit imminent terrorist acts.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had visited four pharmacies in the Hadd al-Sawalim area, purchasing raw chemicals used in the manufacture of explosives. Two of the arrested brothers conducted reconnaissance visits to different locations, documenting potential targets for their terrorist plans with photographs and camera recordings.

Terrorist Plans

Intelligence information indicates that the suspects intended to carry out sabotage operations using explosive materials before joining ISIS camps in the Sahel region. The security operation prevented the suspects from executing their plans, ensuring the safety of potential targets.
