Mohanlal Apologizes for L2: Empuran, Cuts Controversial Scenes

Malayalam film director Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest movie, “L2: Empuraan”, has been doing well at the box office. But controversy is growing over some scenes depicting riots, which seem to reference the 2002 Gujarat riots. Now, the actor has apologized to fans.

Mohanlal posted a lengthy message on social media, saying he regrets causing pain to some viewers. He also announced that the production team has decided to remove the riot scenes from the film.

On Facebook, Mohanlal wrote, “I know some parts of Empuraan, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, upset some fans. As an artist, it’s my responsibility to ensure my films don’t spread hate towards any political movement, ideology, or religion.”

Mohanlal Decides to Remove Scenes from the Film

Mohanlal added, “I, along with the Empuraan team, apologize to those who were hurt by the film’s scenes. We understand that the people behind the film are fully responsible. We’ve decided to remove all the controversial parts.” He said he’s spent four decades in cinema, and his fans’ love and trust are his only strength.

Earlier, the film’s producer, Gokulam Gopalan, said the production team had decided to make 17 cuts to the film, which will be re-released in theaters next week. It’s reported that scenes of violence against women and riots will be removed, the villain’s name will be changed, and some dialogues will be muted.
