LIVERPOOL, England — Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool Football Club at the conclusion of the 2025-26 Premier League season, ending a nine-year tenure that redefined the modern era at Anfield. The 33-year-old forward and the club reached a mutual agreement to part ways upon the expiration of his contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
Salah addressed the fanbase in a statement, confirming his departure early to maintain transparency. “Leaving is never easy,” Salah said. “You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you… Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has secured every major club honor available. His catalog of trophies includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, and two League Cups. Liverpool currently sits fifth in the Premier League standings with seven games remaining in the campaign.
The exit announcement follows a highly publicized breakdown in Salah’s relationship with head coach Arne Slot. During a turbulent season, the forward delivered an explosive interview in December 2025, stating he was being “thrown under the bus” after being benched during a 3-3 draw against Leeds United. Liverpool temporarily suspended Salah for a subsequent Champions League match against Inter Milan in the immediate aftermath of those comments.
Despite the internal friction, Salah recently demonstrated his on-pitch value. Days prior to Tuesday’s announcement, he registered a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray, securing a 4-1 aggregate win in the Champions League and reaching double digits for goals this season.
With his departure now finalized, Salah and Liverpool remain active in two knockout competitions. The club is scheduled to face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals.
