Miller Gardner Death: Digital Evidence Seized in Second Costa Rica Resort Raid

Authorities in Costa Rica recently conducted a second search at the resort where Miller Gardner, the young son of former New York Yankees star Brett Gardner, tragically passed away earlier this year. This step comes as investigators continue their dedicated effort to piece together what happened.

Miller, who was only 14, died from carbon monoxide poisoning while on a family vacation in March. He was staying at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Manuel Antonio with his dad, his mother Jessica, and older brother Hunter. It’s a heartbreaking situation that has kept the family and investigators searching for answers.

Kenneth Alberto Álvarez Barboza, a prosecutor in Quepos, explained the reason for the recent activity. He said the second search aimed to gather any evidence still needed for the ongoing investigation. Reports from a prominent news channel confirmed these details on September 11, the same day the search happened.

This wasn’t the first time officials visited the resort. Back in March, an initial search focused on checking for “toxic substances” in the rooms where the Gardner family had stayed. The latest search, however, looked for different clues.

Prosecutors explained they specifically wanted to collect “digital evidence” during the September search. This included things like computers and other electronic devices with recorded information. They also looked for physical documents, routine logbooks, and work order records. Basically, anything that might help them understand the events better.

The investigation officially began on March 21. Álvarez Barboza shared that they have found important clues since then. These findings led to both search operations and the collection of many types of evidence. This includes digital files, written documents, and statements from witnesses.

The main goal for both the prosecutor’s office and judicial police is to figure out if the hotel, or anyone else, was responsible. They want to know if any intentional actions or negligence led to Miller coming into contact with harmful substances.

Officials have already talked to people at the resort as part of their investigation. However, the prosecutor made it clear that no suspects have been named. He emphasized that the investigation is not targeting any specific person. Instead, it’s all about gathering facts and information.

The Gardner family has been kept in the loop through their lawyers in Costa Rica. Álvarez Barboza mentioned that his office has stayed in regular contact with them. The family is recognized as victims in the case and receives updates on the investigation’s progress.

The Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort was contacted for a statement regarding the ongoing situation.

The Yankees released a statement from the Gardner family on March 23, sharing their devastating news. “It is with heavy hearts that we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” the statement began.

The family continued, “He was 14 years old and left us too soon after becoming ill along with several other family members during their vacation.” They described Miller as a “much-loved son and brother” and said they can’t imagine life without his “contagious smile.” The statement ended by remembering Miller’s love for football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, and his family and friends, noting he “lived life to the fullest every day.”
