Tough news for Milan fans keeps coming. Star forward Rafael Leão will stay off the pitch longer than expected. He has been out for nearly a month because of a muscle injury. Now, the club confirms he won’t be back for this Sunday’s game against Bologna.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri also gave a strong hint. He said Leão will probably miss the next match after that, too. Allegri explained that Leão is dealing with a problem in his soleus muscle. That’s a part of the calf, and it can be a real headache for players. It’s known to be a tricky injury to heal completely.
So, Leão definitely misses the Bologna game. Allegri added that he “very probably” won’t even play in Udine. This means we likely won’t see the Portuguese winger until late September. Milan hopes he can make his return for the Cup game against Lecce on September 23rd. Another possible date is the home match against Napoli on September 28th, which is the fifth round of the league season.
Leão’s season started with a bang, but ended quickly. He played in the first round Cup match against Bari on August 17th. He even scored a goal in the 14th minute. But just three minutes later, at the 17-minute mark, he had to leave the field injured. Milan still won that game 2-0 without him.
