Microsoft is rolling out new builds of Windows 11, starting with Build 26200+, to Windows Insider participants in the Dev Channel. These builds bring significant changes to the operating system’s underlying framework, paving the way for the development of Windows 11’s 25H2 update, scheduled for release later in 2025.
According to Zach Bowden, editor at Windows Central, sources indicate that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 ARM processor requires substantial changes. The improved Windows 11 Germanium platform has already been tested in the Canary Channel build, and it’s now time to move to the Dev Channel build for further testing. This will ensure that future devices equipped with the Snapdragon X2 chip can run Windows 11 on the Germanium platform smoothly and efficiently.
The Windows 11 Germanium platform is expected to undergo further changes and improvements in the 25H2 update, focusing on increased stability for general users. Typically, updates prioritize performance and security enhancements.
Although Microsoft hasn’t confirmed whether Windows 11 version 25H2 will use the same platform as 24H2 (Windows 11 Germanium), it’s likely that both versions will share the same codebase, making the update from 24H2 to 25H2 quick and seamless for users.
Microsoft aims to reduce the fragmentation of its Windows platforms, currently supporting three platforms: Vibranium, Nickel, and Germanium, which underpin Windows 10 version 22H2, Windows 11 version 23H2, and Windows 11 version 24H2, respectively.
However, the Windows 11 Build 26200 Insider Preview Dev Channel is not yet available for download as an ISO file. It may take some time after the update is released for Windows Insider Dev Channel installers.
