Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke has officially forfeited the lease to his Los Angeles home. A default judgment was filed on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, formally canceling the 73-year-old’s rental agreement with landlord Eric T. Goldie.
Rourke failed to respond to the initial complaint and did not appear in court to defend himself within the legal timeframe mandated by California law. The ruling follows a three-day notice served on December 18, 2025, which demanded Rourke pay $59,100 in back rent or vacate the Beverly Grove bungalow.
The legal dispute began shortly after Rourke’s monthly rent at the property was increased from $5,200 to $7,000. The situation became a highly discussed topic in entertainment circles in January 2026 when the actor’s manager, Kimberly Hines, launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the immediate housing expenses.
The crowdfunding effort successfully reached its $100,000 goal in a matter of days. Rourke quickly addressed the situation on Instagram, publicly denouncing the campaign as charity, which led to the fundraiser being taken down. Concurrently, Hines claimed the house had become uninhabitable due to black mold and severe water damage that destroyed the actor’s furniture.
According to Entertainment Weekly, this marks the second time Rourke has lost a housing dispute by failing to appear in court. In 2017, a New York landlord sued the actor for $30,000 in unpaid rent and $10,000 in damages related to a Tribeca loft, resulting in a similar default judgment against him.
These recent financial hurdles follow other professional losses for the actor. In April 2025, Rourke was ejected from Celebrity Big Brother UK for unacceptable behavior, an incident that reportedly voided a massive payday.
With the lease now formally canceled by the court, Goldie is proceeding with legal efforts to secure additional compensation from Rourke to cover alleged property damages and accumulated attorney fees.
