The competitive Counter-Strike 2 scene is seeing a significant shift in team strategy, and MIBR just made a notable move. The organization announced the arrival of Aleksei “Qikert” Goluveb on Monday, September 8. This Kazakh player, a Major champion from 2022, joins MIBR’s main CS2 roster on loan until the close of 2025. This move signals a push for international talent in a big way.
This new addition means a change for Nicollas “nicks” Polonio. He moved to the reserve bench after less than two months with the team, having been announced on July 14. Qikert comes to MIBR after being away from PARIVISION since early July. He notably earned his Major title in Rio during 2022, playing then for Outsiders.
🚨 UPDATE

A Global Strategy in Esports
MIBR’s decision to bring in Qikert builds on a recent pattern. On August 26, the club also confirmed the Russian player Klimentii “kl1m” Krivosheev as a reinforcement. With these two new signings, MIBR now fields a roster that includes two non-native players. This raises a big question: is gathering international talent the surest way to find success in esports today?
Other teams are trying a similar approach. FURIA, for example, has shown strong performance recently. They also built an international team, bringing in Danil “molodoy” Golubenko and Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis. This strategy has paid off, with FURIA reaching the playoffs in four out of seven tournaments they played. Their results highlight the potential upside of looking beyond local talent pools.
This isn’t MIBR’s first time experimenting with a mixed roster. In 2018, the organization had a similar setup, featuring Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip and Tarik “tarik” Celika. While that team showed promise and reached the finals three times in top-tier competitions, they ultimately didn’t secure any major titles. This history adds a layer of anticipation to MIBR’s current strategy. Will this new push for global talent finally lead to championship glory?
The team jumps back into action on Tuesday, September 9, for the ESL Challenger League Season 50 South America Cup 2. Nicollas “nicks” Polonio is still set to play in this upcoming tournament. Qikert will join the team for the following competition, though the specific date for his debut has not yet been announced. Everyone is watching to see if this refreshed, international MIBR can achieve its goals.
