Earlier this year, Twitter was cast in a negative light when Elon Musk wanted to buy the social media platform. Twitter is said to have lied about the number of bots on the platform, so Musk almost bought the platform for a much too high price. Metaverse projects Decentraland and The Sandbox faced similar accusations regarding their platforms and now want to avoid ambiguity.
Metaverse platforms deflated?
Decentraland came to be seen in a negative light after DappRadar wrote that it measured fewer than 40 active users, while the ecosystem’s tokens were worth about $1.3 billion at the time. We read that in an article by CoinDesk.
DappRadar in response to this seems to be a blog article having written about how it calculates the user numbers of a network. The blockchain analyst writes that while it monitors on-chain data, crypto transactions in the ecosystem do not equate to the number of active users of the platform. The DappRadar article now appears to have been modified to more accurately describe the situation on Decentraland.
Decentraland and The Sandbox still well visited
Decentraland, in turn, has now taken to Twitter to rectify the situation once and for all. In September, it had 56,697 monthly active users (MAU), 1,074 who are engaged in smart contracts and thus pay, and sold 6,315 wearables. Despite the bear market, this is solid activity.

The Sandbox is also a must. Blockworks contacted the developers and found out that it has 39,000 daily active users, a whopping 301,000 monthly active users and a total of 4.1 million wallets. The ecosystem has 22,267 virtual land owners, and 128 million SANDs are committed to a strike contract. The players have spent a total of 1.6 million hours in the metaverse.
All in all, we can conclude that maybe not everyone spends and buys cryptocurrencies in the metaverse, but it is certainly used. Bear Market or not, the metaverse still exists.
