Chatting across borders just got a whole lot smoother. WhatsApp, a messaging giant under Meta, is rolling out a big new feature. Now, you can translate messages instantly, knocking down language walls for good. This new tool works for 21 different languages.
This isn’t WhatsApp’s first move to smarten up conversations. Just weeks ago, the app added AI-powered text summaries and suggestions. Now, it’s making global communication much easier with its long-awaited translation function. However, for now, this handy update is only for iPhone users.
WhatsApp’s Latest Upgrade
This fresh update, found in version 25.28.74, also brings official support for Live Photos. Meta says it might take a few weeks for everyone to see the new features. So, if you don’t have it yet, just be patient.

Translate Your Chats Instantly
The cool part about this new translation tool? It works even when you’re offline. You’ll need to download some language files at first. After that, no internet connection is needed for quick translations. Here’s how to use it:
- Tap and hold the message you want to translate.
- Pick “More…” from the menu that pops up.
- Select “Translate” from the options.
The first time you use it, the app will ask you to choose the original language and the language you want it translated to. Then, you’ll download the necessary language packs to your iPhone. Once those files are on your device, you can translate messages without any internet connection. You can always manage your downloaded languages or add new ones by going to Settings > Translate > Downloaded Languages.

iPhone Users Get First Access
Right now, 21 different languages are supported, as reported by WABetaInfo. Meta also notes a few limits to what this tool can do:
- **What it translates:** Text messages you send or get in both individual and group chats.
- **What it doesn’t translate:** It won’t work for locations, documents, contact names, stickers, or GIFs.
- **Requirements:** You need enough storage space on your phone for the language packs. Also, you’ll need a good Wi-Fi signal or data connection for that first download.
WhatsApp confirms support for a wide range of languages. These include Arabic, Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional Mandarin), Dutch, English (UK/US), French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
This new translation feature makes WhatsApp an even stronger tool for connecting people worldwide. It adds a huge convenience, especially for anyone chatting with friends, family, or colleagues across different countries.
