Mercadona It plans to exceed the year 2021 in its economic forecasts for the online channel in 2022. So that the company expects to bill €530 million this year. This It would mean a rise of 4.3% compared to the 510 million of the previous year. This figure is related to ecommerce and teleshopping activity, while that obtained by hives stands at 257 million (+45%).

On the other hand, the company has launched its new online shopping service, thanks to the opening in Seville of its beehive, a logistics center designed to serve customers who order products online. To do this, they have an investment of 25 million euros (figure that includes the acquisition of the plot in public tender) and which starts with a workforce of 145 people, bringing the distributor’s online payroll to 2,000 workers.

For now, they will start this service in the downtown area of the Andalusian capital and will expand its radius of action in the coming weeks until it reaches a large part of the province, part of Huelva and Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz).

Different sales models in relation to the demand of the orders

Mercadona has different sales models based on the demand for orders in each town. On the one hand, with the Colmenas model, it serves areas with a high density of online orders. On the other hand, the areas with the lowest concentration of orders have a model in which they are prepared and distributed from the stores. The latter is currently underway in several Spanish provinces such as Castellón, Lérida, Gerona, Almería or Murcia, with the forecast of having 18 stores before the end of the year.
