Meizu Returns to Global Smartphone Market with Note 16 Launch in April

Meizu, a Chinese hardware maker, made a splash at the 2025 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, announcing its return to the global smartphone market. This comes after reports in 2024 that the company was scaling back its smartphone business to focus on AI development.

The new smartphone will be a mid-range device, set to launch in China. Meizu has already teased its Note 16 series, which features a large rear camera module, a straight-edged screen, and a dedicated AI button.

Meizu also confirmed that it will launch the Meizu 22 series this summer, after showcasing it at the Mobile World Congress. The Meizu 22 is expected to pack the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which has a top processing speed of 4.32 GHz, a premium camera system, and AI-focused features.

The Meizu 22 builds on the Meizu 21 Pro, released in February 2024, which featured a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a 6.79-inch AMOLED screen, and a 50-megapixel main camera. The Meizu 21 Pro was priced around 5,000 yuan when it launched.
