The Marilbon Cricket Club, an independent group, has established a new Advisory Board called World Cricket Connectus. This board aims to discuss and address the challenges and problems faced by the game of cricket. The board will comprise 13 members, including former BCCI Secretary and ICC President Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly.
Composition of the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board
The World Cricket Connects Advisory Board will be chaired by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. Other founding members include Graeme Smith, Andrew Strauss, and England’s women’s team captain Heather Knight. This board will replace the World Cricket Committee, which was formed in 2006.
Purpose of the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board
The primary objective of the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board is to discuss and debate the most important topics dominating world cricket. The board will hold its first meeting at Lord’s on 7 and 8 June, where members will engage in discussions to identify solutions to the challenges faced by the game. MCC President Mark Nicholas expressed enthusiasm about welcoming influential people in the game to debate crucial topics.
Previous Initiatives of the Marilbon Cricket Club
The World Cricket Connects Forum was previously inaugurated, attracting over 100 cricketers to discuss the game. The World Cricket Committee, which is being replaced by the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board, was an independent body with no formal power. However, its recommendations have often been adopted by the ICC, including the use of a shot clock, improving DRS, and introducing the World Test Championship.
