Maurizio Sarri is back in charge at Lazio, just over a year after leaving. The Italian coach replaces Marco Baroni, who failed to get the team into European competitions.
Baroni’s tenure ended with a home loss to Lecce and a quarterfinal exit in the UEFA Europa League. Sarri’s return comes after a brief break. He last coached in March 2024, when he quit Lazio after four straight losses.
Sarri’s Past Success
Sarri had a good run at Lazio from 2021 to 2023, earning 1.64 points per game over 137 matches.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is pleased with Sarri’s return, saying, “Maurizio Sarri is back home. His return is a choice of heart, conviction, and vision.”
Sarri’s experience will help Lazio regain its identity and ambition. He’s 66 and has been out of coaching since March 2024. Now, he’s back to lead Lazio.
