Mateu Morey Questions VAR After Controversial Gallagher Incident

A recent press conference was held where Coach Jagoba Arrasate was asked about a particular action on the field. However, it was Mateu Morey who spoke up about the incident involving Gallagher’s entrance to the field in the 82nd minute. The Mallorcan side believed that Gallagher should have been expelled from the game, and they sent a message to the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) regarding this decision.

The incident has sparked some debate, with Morey stating that he thought it was a clear red card offense. He expressed his opinion that the VAR did not adequately review the incident, saying “For me it was very clear red, I think that the VAR has not even entered to review it.” He also mentioned that his team is often on the receiving end of these kinds of decisions, and that they need to focus on what they can control. When asked if Gallagher’s entrance was similar to another incident involving Mascarell against Betis, which resulted in an expulsion after VAR review, Morey chose not to comment.

As for the game itself, Morey felt that the result was unjust and that his team needs to continue improving to break their current losing streak. He said, “It is a party that has decided on details and we have no choice but to continue working. We have to try to improve what we can because the results will come.” He also acknowledged that playing against strong teams like Atlético can be challenging, but that his team needs to focus on their own performance.

Looking ahead to their next two games against Osasuna and Las Palmas, Morey emphasized the importance of taking things one game at a time. He stated that the most important game is always the “next” one, and that his team needs to regain their form from earlier in the season. Morey said, “We have not started 2025 as we would have wanted to be the team we were again,” highlighting the need for his team to refocus and improve their performance.
