Marvel Studios: John Cena has been rejected several times by the studio

Based on his introduction in the film DC of James Gunn The Suicide Squad, John Cena now take the lead on the side of superhero films. The former wrestler was even offered an HBO Max series on his character called Peacemaker, still led by the former filmmaker behind the Guardians of the Galaxy. At the same time, the actor also plays in big successful franchises since we were able to see him as the brother of Dominic Toretto in the parade of beaufs Fast and Furious 9 but also in the movie Bumblebee, spin-off of the saga transformers.

Addressing Josh Horowitz on the podcast The Happy Sad Confused, the star of Peacemaker, John Cena revealed that he had been rejected for previous roles in films Marvel before joining the DC Extended Universe. He had notably applied for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 but saw himself being rejected without notice in favor of Josh Brolin (Thanos). He admits to having also tried Shazam at DC, but the role was ultimately won by Zachary Levi.

cena: I can’t tell you how many superhero roles I’ve been rejected for. Shazam is definitely one. There was a brief tryout in the Deadpool universe, where I was rejected.

Horowitz: For Cable, I suppose?

cena : Yes. But you know, I kept trying. »

Now that John Cena seems solidly invested in the DCEU, it is unlikely to see him land in the MCU in the future. At the moment, the first three episodes of Peacemaker are available to stream on HBO Max.
