Actor Manoj Bajpayee is in the spotlight, and it’s not just for his latest hits. His upcoming film, ‘Jugnuma,’ is already generating buzz. Plus, his recently released ‘Inspector Zende’ earned a lot of praise. But the really exciting news? He’s reuniting with director Ram Gopal Varma after a 27-year gap. Bajpayee recently shared his thoughts with Amar Ujala, spilling details about this special collaboration.
A Reunion Years in the Making
Bajpayee chuckled when asked about working with Varma again. “He’s truly the most unpredictable person and director in the industry,” Bajpayee revealed. He explained that while many people guess what Varma will do next, the truth is, nobody ever really knows. Bajpayee always believed that those who doubted Varma would eventually be surprised. He felt Varma had just taken a temporary detour from his true path.
Bajpayee was confident Varma would return to his core strength and create magic. The first film schedule was fantastic. Bajpayee himself was amazed after seeing the edited footage. This experience strengthened his belief even more. He feels Varma is set to deliver a major hit this time.
The Unpredictable Genius
It’s widely known that Ram Gopal Varma prefers to carve his own path. Bajpayee confirmed this, stating, “That’s absolutely true.” Varma never sticks to a fixed routine. He constantly tries new things. This unique quality makes working with him an exciting adventure every single time.
So, when Varma approached Bajpayee for this new project, the answer was an instant “yes.” Bajpayee humorously added, “I always say yes to him, even if he wants to make me a lamp post!” For Bajpayee, collaborating with Varma is always an opportunity to learn and experience something fresh. He never hesitates to say yes to Varma’s projects.
A Measured Career Path
Bajpayee had a busy few years, working a lot from 2022 to 2024. But in 2025, his pace slowed down. This was a deliberate choice. He often takes breaks between projects. Right now, he is filming a movie with Chinmay, which has a very demanding role. Immediately after, he will move on to Ram Gopal Varma’s film, which is equally challenging.
After these two projects, Bajpayee plans to take a three to four-month break. He does this regularly. He stressed that these breaks aren’t because he’s tired of acting. “That’s absolutely not the case,” he clarified. He deeply loves his craft.
Saying no to producers and directors in an unpredictable industry can be tough. Bajpayee believes it comes down to patience. “Those who can wait, wait,” he explained, adding that others have their reasons for not waiting, and he respects that. He feels very fortunate in his career. Regardless of his professional ups and downs, directors have always approached him specifically. They have shown him great respect and given him room to perform. Even for large-scale films, filmmakers have patiently waited for Bajpayee to join.
