Joe Musgrove was hitless by Milwaukee for 7 2/3 innings, and the San Diego Padres snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-0 shutout of the Brewers on Friday.

Musgrove won the pitching duel against Corbin Burnes (3-3), the most recent winner of the Cy Young Trophy.

The previous season, Musgrove posted the only no-hitter in Padres history. He was close to getting it again.

Kolten Wong had Milwaukee’s only hit with two outs in the eighth inning. He bounced the ball off the warning strip and then off the right-field wall for a double.

Musgrove (6-0) stayed on the mound and retired Pablo Reyes for the last out of the eighth inning. He thus completed a task of 114 pitches, the longest he has had this season.

Craig Stammen retired all three of his opponents in order during the ninth inning to complete the shutout.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Manny Machado 5-1, Nomar Mazara 2-0. Venezuelan José Azocar 3-2 with a run scored.

For the Brewers, the Mexican Luis Urías 1-0. The Dominican Pablo Reyes 2-0. Puerto Rican Victor Caratini 2-0.
