Man Utd’s Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Free Loan, Amorim in Charge

André Onana presented at Trabzonspor

Well, this is a bit of a curveball in the football world. André Onana, the 29-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper, is heading to Trabzonspor in Turkey. He’s joining them on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the 2025/2026 season. Both clubs confirmed the news on Thursday, and the best part for Trabzonspor? This deal won’t cost them a penny.

Trabzonspor shared the good news on X, making it clear they sealed a “no cost” temporary transfer. It’s a smart move for the Turkish side, getting a proven shot-stopper without breaking the bank. For Onana, it’s a chance to get back to consistent playing time.

Onana joined the Red Devils in July 2023, coming over from Italian giants Inter Milan. He quickly became a key figure, racking up 102 appearances for United. He even helped them lift the FA Cup trophy in May 2024, a big moment for the club.

He was United’s undisputed number one for his first two seasons. Regular starters Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, both Portuguese internationals, played alongside him during that time. However, things changed this season. Onana found himself sidelined, only featuring in one match. That lone appearance saw United knocked out of the English League Cup by Grimsby Town, a team from the fourth tier. So, this loan move makes a lot of sense for everyone involved.
