Pedro Gonçalves, known as Pote, once again stood out. He was the star player in the 2-1 victory over Famalicão. Pote scored a goal and set up another for his team. Interestingly, at halftime, the Sporting midfielder had a quick chat with Famalicão’s goalkeeper, Carevic. The keeper wanted to know how Pote had thought about the shot that tied the game.
“He asked me what I had in mind,” Pote explained to Sport TV. “I told him I tried to put the ball on the other side. But it slipped right under his legs.” Carevic then mentioned he thought Pote would take another touch. “Luck was on my side,” Pote admitted. “I hope it smiles on me more often.” He also spoke about his commitment. “I try to do my best for the club. I want to praise the support of our fans. It’s a source of great pride to represent this club.”
Pote then offered a quick look at the match itself. “I’m proud to receive this award,” he said. “I also want to highlight all the energy from the team. We knew it would be a tough game. Famalicão is a very good team. They had not conceded any goals yet. Like us, they did their best to win. But I believe the result was fair.”
The two-time national champions returned to winning after their loss to FC Porto. Pote did not forget to mention this change. “We know the group we have,” he stated. “We always give our maximum effort to win. We aren’t starting games well. We are also letting in goals from set pieces. We will try to fix these things.” He showed confidence, adding, “Even so, if we keep playing like this, we will have many wins ahead. We always play to win. The loss to FC Porto was hard to take.
