Malayalam Rapper Vedan Detained for Possessing Leopard Tooth After Drug Arrest

Malayalam rapper Vedan is back in the news. Known for his bold lyrics, Vedan was arrested on April 29, 2025, in a drug bust in Kochi. Police raided his rented flat and seized five grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, ₹945,000 in cash, and several mobile phones. Vedan and eight others were detained but released on bail due to the small amount of drugs involved.

New Trouble for Vedan

The drama didn’t end there. During the police search, a leopard tooth was found hanging from a chain around Vedan’s neck. The Kerala Forest Department was notified, and an investigation began. Forest Minister A.K. Sasiendran confirmed that the tooth was verified as belonging to a leopard.

The Leopard Tooth Controversy

Vedan initially claimed he bought the tooth in Thailand. However, he later changed his story, stating that a fan gifted it to him at a Chennai event in May 2024. The Forest Department is now probing the origin of the tooth.

The authorities are examining whether Vedan violated wildlife protection laws. If found guilty, he could face serious consequences.

Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, is a well-known figure in Kerala’s music scene. His arrest has sparked a heated debate about drug use and wildlife trafficking in the entertainment industry.
