Luis Díaz: Two Goals, Red Card, Three-Game Champions League Ban

Star forward Luis Díaz has been suspended for three Champions League matches by UEFA, prompting an appeal from Bayern Munich and sidelining the Colombian international for critical upcoming fixtures.

The suspension, announced on Friday, means Díaz will miss Bayern Munich’s home match against Sporting on December 9.

The ruling stems from his expulsion during Bayern’s 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on November 4, a game where he scored both of his team’s goals.

Díaz, 28, received the red card for a foul on Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi in the first half’s stoppage time.

Hakimi suffered a sprained medial ligament in his left ankle and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, potentially missing the rest of the year.

Beyond the Sporting fixture, the winger will also be unavailable for Bayern Munich’s away game against Arsenal on Wednesday.

He will also miss subsequent home matches against Sporting and Belgian club Union St. Gilloise.

Díaz is not projected to return to European competition until January 28, 2026, for an away match against PSV Eindhoven.

According to local reports, the German champions intend to appeal the decision to UEFA and have formally requested a justification for the lengthy ban.

In his debut season, Díaz has been a key player for Bayern Munich, recording 12 goals and five assists in 17 appearances.

Bayern Munich currently leads the Bundesliga. The club is also one of only three teams, along with Arsenal and Inter Milan, to maintain a perfect record through the first four Champions League group stage matches.
