The world’s largest league, the Indian Premier League, is all set to kick off on March 22 this year, marking its 18th season. So, who’s playing the first match? It’s going to be Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22. As for the Lucknow Super Giants, they’ll be playing their first match against Delhi Capitals on March 24 at their home ground.
LSG’s Schedule
The team will be led by their new captain, Rishabh Pant, this season. Their first league match is against Delhi Capitals on March 24, and their last league match will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18. All of LSG’s seven home matches will be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Here’s a sneak peek at their schedule: they’ll be playing Delhi Capitals at home on March 24, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on March 27, and then Punjab Kings at home on April 1. Other matches include Mumbai Indians at home on April 4, Kolkata Knight Riders at home on April 6, Gujarat Titans at home on April 12, and Chennai Super Kings at home on April 14.
As the season progresses, LSG will face Rajasthan Royals at home on April 19, Delhi Capitals at home again on April 22, Mumbai Indians at home on April 27, Punjab Kings at home on May 4, Royal Challengers Bangalore at home on May 9, Gujarat Titans at home on May 12, and finally, Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18.
IPL 2025 Matches and Venues
This season’s matches will be played across 13 cities, including Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Bangalore, New Chandigarh, Jaipur, Delhi, Kolkata, and Dharamshala. What’s interesting is that there are 12 double-header matches lined up, meaning two matches will be played on the same day, 12 times throughout the season.
Now, you might be wondering why the first match of IPL 2025 isn’t between the two teams that played in the final last season. Well, it’s because this time, things are a bit different. Last season’s final was between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the first match of IPL 2025 will be played between KKR and RCB.
