Spanish Football Federation President Highlights Importance of Real Madrid and Barcelona
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, emphasized the significant role that Real Madrid and Barcelona play as ambassadors of Spain. He noted that the two teams have a substantial global presence, making them ideal representatives of the country.
Louzán made these remarks at an official reception for the Super Cup finalists, which was held at a hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event was attended by prominent figures, including the president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, and the director of Institutional Relations of Real Madrid, Emilio Butragueño.
The Super Cup final, which will take place on Sunday, is expected to be watched by over 50 million people worldwide. Louzán attributed this massive viewership to the significant impact of the two Spanish football giants.
The RFEF president expressed his gratitude to the Saudi authorities for their hospitality during the event. He also highlighted the significance of the two Spanish clubs reaching the final, stating that it is a way to reciprocate the affection received in Jeddah.
Spain and Saudi Arabia, hand in hand
Spain, along with Portugal and Morocco, will host the World Cup in 2030, while Saudi Arabia will take over in 2034. Louzán emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two countries, stating that their successes will be shared.
Saudi Arabia has been hosting the Super Cup since 2020 and will continue to do so until 2029, as per the contract signed with the RFEF. The contract has generated significant revenue for the RFEF, with 40 million euros being allocated to the clubs.
Louzán noted that the Super Cup has experienced significant growth and expansion worldwide, thanks in part to its successful format featuring four teams at a neutral venue.
The representatives of Real Madrid and Barcelona exchanged gifts and posed in front of the trophy and the final ball during the event. The occasion was attended by various dignitaries, including members of the RFEF board of directors and the honorary consul of Spain in Riyadh.
The consul emphasized the significance of the Super Cup being held in Jeddah, stating that it is a great honor for the local community and the Spanish residents in the area.
Butragueño expressed his gratitude for the hospitality received and confessed his excitement about the upcoming match, which is expected to be a great football festival.
