Listeria Outbreak at Stockholm’s Coco & Carmen: 85 Sick, 4 Sepsis

ภัตตาคารหรูในสวีเดนทำ "อาหารเป็นพิษ" ป่วย 85 ราย พบ 4 รายอาการรุนแรงติดเชื้อในกระแสเลือด

An unexpected health scare has hit a high-end restaurant in Sweden’s capital. At least 85 people became sick after eating at “Coco & Carmen” in Stockholm. This luxury establishment, located in the upscale Östermalm district, is now at the center of a public health investigation. Officials believe the cause is Listeria bacteria.

Four of the affected diners developed serious blood infections, known as sepsis. Thankfully, their conditions are stable, and they do not need intensive care. This outbreak, reported on October 2, 2025, has prompted quick action from health authorities. They are working hard to track down everyone who might have been exposed.

Investigators are looking closely at customers who dined at Coco & Carmen between September 23 and 27. About 400 people from that period have been contacted. Health officials are telling anyone with symptoms like fever, vomiting, or diarrhea to see a doctor quickly. This proactive step aims to prevent more severe illnesses.

Coco & Carmen’s owners have publicly apologized to their customers. They promised full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. The restaurant has temporarily closed its doors. They hope to welcome guests back by October 7, once the source of the contamination is found and resolved.

Listeria is a common bacterium found in dirt, water, and even animals. It often contaminates food that has been stored cold for a while. Initial symptoms can feel like a bad cold or stomach flu. However, it can cause very serious problems. These include meningitis, which is an infection of the brain and spinal cord, or sepsis. Pregnant women, older adults, and those with weak immune systems are most at risk from this infection.
