Meet Lightmatter, a startup from California that’s making waves in the tech world with its groundbreaking technology. This company has just launched two innovative products that are set to revolutionize the way AI chips connect with each other.
The secret to their tech? Using light to transfer data between computer chips instead of traditional electrical signals. This is made possible by something called silicon photonics, which is like a superhighway for data.
Other big players in the industry, like AMD and NVIDIA, are already experimenting with this technology. AMD has even demoed it with their own chips, and NVIDIA is using it in their networking chips. However, the tech isn’t quite ready for all of their chips just yet.
So, what exactly has Lightmatter created? They’ve come up with two new products designed specifically for AI chips. The first one is called Interposer, which is like a special layer that goes underneath the AI chip. It helps connect the chip to another one on top of it. The second product is called Chiplet, which can be placed directly on top of an AI chip.
According to Lightmatter, Interposer will be available later this year, while Chiplet will hit the market next year. GlobalFoundries, a company that used to be part of AMD, will be producing the Interposer.
