LeBron James’ NBA Draft Dream Comes True: Los Angeles Lakers Select Son Bronny to Play Together

Lebron James’ Son Bronny to Join Los Angeles Lakers Next Season

Lebron James will fulfill his dream before retiring, as his son Bronny will be his partner on the Los Angeles Lakers next season. The California franchise selected the 19-year-old point guard with the 55th pick in the draft, making the James family the first to have a father and son playing at the same time, and also as teammates.

Bronny, who stands at 187 centimeters tall, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists with a field goal shooting percentage of 36.6% (26.7% on triples) for the University of Southern California, USC. There were concerns about Bronny’s health, as he suffered a cardiac arrest and underwent surgery less than a year ago to correct a congenital heart defect. However, he has been cleared to participate in the draft combine and play in the big leagues.

Criticism of his game: does he deserve the NBA?

Bronny has been the subject of continuous criticism in recent years. He was seen as a good NBA prospect but year after year, despite his surname, his abilities have been losing followers. An anonymous NBA scout attacked him a few weeks ago, saying, "No, he’s not good enough. Maybe if he went back to college for one or two more years. But right now he’s not an NBA player. He’s not even close to being one."

He was not the only one limiting Bronny’s chances of playing in the NBA to being drafted by the Lakers…to give his father the pleasure of playing with him before he retires. LeBron, 40 in December, has always made it clear that one of the reasons for staying active was to be able to share a team with his son.

"He’s on the shorter side, so he’ll have to be elite defensively. You can see he has good vision, makes the right passes and takes good shots. But he’ll need more time. If the Lakers don’t draft him, I don’t see anyone choosing him in the Draft," commented another of those leaked reports from NBA scouts.
