Italian club Lazio bypassed their mandatory post-match press conference after a Serie A defeat to AC Milan, choosing instead to issue a social media statement protesting a referee’s decision.
Neither players nor coach Maurizio Sarri appeared for interviews following their 1-0 loss to AC Milan.
The club’s protest centered on a penalty claim late in the game.
Lazio believed AC Milan’s Pavlovic handled the ball inside the penalty area. After a review, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) instead flagged Lazio’s Marusic for an earlier foul.
Approximately an hour after the match concluded at San Siro, Lazio publicly broke its silence.
The club posted an image of the disputed play on X, formerly known as Twitter. Its caption read, “We regret not going to the press conference, tonight the images speak for themselves.”
