Sharjah Closes Public Parks Amid Severe Weather Alerts

Sharjah City Municipality shut down all public parks and medical fitness centers on Monday due to severe atmospheric instability across the United Arab Emirates. The immediate closures will remain in effect until weather conditions stabilize to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

Authorities mobilized a workforce of 1,200 personnel to manage the ongoing storm impact. The emergency response includes engineers, technicians, and support staff actively working across the emirate to mitigate flooding and assist residents.

The National Centre of Meteorology reported heavy intermittent rainfall and strong winds reaching 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. The storm system is reducing visibility across multiple emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Sharjah deployed a massive fleet of heavy equipment to combat water accumulation on public roadways. The municipality dispatched 180 water tankers, 140 high-capacity pumps, and six advanced dam vehicles. Twenty recovery vehicles are actively towing stalled cars from flooded streets.

Emergency management teams established 67 water collection basins to handle immediate drainage needs. The municipality placed its 993 emergency call center on high alert to process resident requests and dispatch rescue teams.

Closing outdoor recreational spaces is a standard municipal protocol in Sharjah during heavy rain depressions. Local authorities executed identical preventative measures during severe storms in March 2024 and December 2022. March frequently brings rapid low-pressure storm developments to this part of the world.
