After a two-month hiatus, Ibai Llanos returned to Twitch with a live stream last Sunday, eager to catch up with his chat and share his thoughts on the highly anticipated La Velada del Año event. Although he didn’t reveal the location or participants, he did drop some hints about what’s to come. Notably, he ruled out Madrid and Barcelona as potential hosts, but for different reasons. Madrid was scratched off the list because he didn’t want to repeat a previous venue, and the recent concert cancellations at the Bernabéu didn’t help. Barcelona, on the other hand, is out of the running due to the ongoing renovations at the Camp Nou, which means there isn’t a stadium in the city that can accommodate over 50,000 spectators. This leaves us with a shortlist of three potential stadiums.
Spain boasts an impressive array of top-notch stadiums, courtesy of its La Liga clubs, but Ibai Llanos is known for pushing the boundaries and going big or going home. La Velada del Año has already made its mark on the Olímpico de Badalona, the Metropolitano, and the Bernabéu – three stadiums that are each more impressive than the last. In fact, the latter two are the second and third largest in terms of capacity, with only the Camp Nou surpassing them. However, with the Camp Nou currently under renovation, we’re left to consider other options.
The Benito Villamarín stadium, home to Real Betis, is a strong contender, with an official seating capacity of 60,721. Another possibility in Sevilla is the Estadio de la Cartuja, which can accommodate 57,600 people. Meanwhile, the Lluis Companys stadium in Barcelona has a capacity of 49,472, but even with potential partial or obstructed views, it falls short of the 50,000 spectator mark. This leads us to consider a third option: San Mamés, the home of Athletic Bilbao, a team close to Ibai’s heart. Having undergone renovation in recent years, San Mamés boasts a capacity of 53,000 spectators and has a proven track record of hosting high-profile matches, including the Champions League final and the Europa League final.
Potential Venues for La Velada del Año
The options currently on the table are:
- Benito Villamarín stadium (60,721 capacity)
- Estadio de la Cartuja (57,600 capacity)
- San Mamés (53,000 capacity)
Rumors have been circulating for some time, and one creator, Javi Oliveira, has hinted that La Cartuja is the frontrunner. We’ll have to wait and see if this speculation is confirmed later today. One thing’s for sure, though: La Velada del Año is set to return with a bang, and it will be taking place in a brand-new city, outside of Barcelona and Madrid, where the previous events were held.
Rumors Point to La Cartuja as the Likely Venue
With these three options in the running, it’s not hard to conclude that Sevilla is the top contender. As the anticipation builds, fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement. Will La Velada del Año indeed take place at La Cartuja, or will Ibai Llanos and his team surprise us with a different venue? The suspense is palpable, and all will be revealed soon.
