Kiran Rao is heading to the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival as a jury member. She’s thrilled about it, saying it’s an honor to be part of a festival that promotes international cinema and diverse storytelling. Kiran will join a panel of renowned film personalities from around the world, led by Italian director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore, known for his Oscar-winning film “Cinema Paradiso”.
Other notable jury members include Argentine filmmaker Ivan Fund, Chinese actor and director Huang Bo, Greek producer Thanassis Karathanos, Chinese director and documentary filmmaker Yang Lina, and Chinese actress Yong Mei. The festival will take place in Shanghai from June 13 to 22, 2025.
Kiran’s latest film, “Lapata Ladies”, received widespread acclaim for its unique storyline and strong performances by its cast, including Konkona Sen Sharma, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. In an interview, Kiran talked about the challenges of making the film with a limited budget and no big stars, but she trusted her content and team to deliver.
As Kiran prepares for her jury duties, she’s looking forward to experiencing different voices and perspectives on the screen and connecting with her fellow jurors from around the globe. This festivals promises to be a celebration of cinematic excellence, with Kiran Rao being a part of it.
