Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni has traveled to Beijing, China. He is there for his regular health check-up. Before leaving, the King made an important decision. He appointed Samdech Hun Sen as the acting head of state. This means Hun Sen will handle royal duties while the King is away.
The Royal Palace of Cambodia announced this news on August 22, 2025. It stated King Sihamoni would visit Beijing for his usual medical examinations. This appointment ensures stability in the country’s leadership. Samdech Hun Sen currently serves as the President of the Senate.
In a special message to his people, the King shared words of goodwill. He offered blessings to Buddhist religious leaders and monks. He also expressed his deep love and concern for all Cambodians. His Majesty wished for continued peace, prosperity, and good health for the nation. He hoped these blessings would remain strong under the principles of Buddhism.
These international health check-ups are a long-standing tradition for the King. He regularly travels abroad for these medical appointments. His last visit was in August 2024, also in Beijing. During that trip, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk joined him.
