Kennedy Burke’s Uni Girona adds the third in Europe

Girona met again this Wednesday with the victory in the Euroleague by beating the French Basket Landes by a clear 71-80, to stand with three wins in six days, just one of the two teams leading group B, the Galatasaray and the Sopron.

Alfred Julbe’s team now shares third place in the group tied three wins with Landes, Dynamo Kursk, Fenerbahce Safiport and Beretta Famila Schio. The classification is closed by Arka Gdynia, the Catalan team’s next rival, next Wednesday at the Fontajau pavilion.

Before this weekend Spar Girona will face Perfumerías Avenida, leader of the Endesa League and great rival of the Catalans in recent years, after celebrating a prestigious victory in France that allowed him to nurture the dream of finishing in the top four and moving on to the next round of the Euroleague, the highest continental competition.

After losing the last two games in Europe, against Kursk and Galatasaray, Girona jumped onto the floor determined to straighten out the course and illustrated their superiority from the first minute, starting with a basket by Julia Reisingerová to pave the way to triumph.

The first quarter closed with a seven-point difference (17-24), and the differences continued to grow in the second and did not drop below ten points until the last period, due to the frustration of a Landes unable to stop Girona’s fast game, absolute dominator of the first half (32-44).

Girona established its maximum advantage in the third quarter, with an income of 19 points (38-57), after two consecutive triples by Burke and Frida Eldebrink and a free kick from Reisingerova. And, although Landes approached the electronic in the last minutes, up to 5 points (71-76), the visiting team ended up certifying a key and exciting victory.

The American forward Kennedy Burke, the main reference of the Fontajau team and one of the top scorers in the Euroleague, reached 28 points. She was the top scorer of the match, ahead of locals Lidija Turcinovic and Regan Magarity (19). On the part of Girona, Reisingerová (15) and Eldebrink (11) also surpassed ten points.
