Kamindu Mendis Cancels Honeymoon for IPL Debut, Shines in First Match

Kamindu Mendis made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 3. The talented Sri Lankan bowler can bowl with both hands. He played against Kolkata Knight Riders and scored 27 runs with his bat. Mendis also took a wicket in his debut match. But he’s making headlines for another reason – he skipped his honeymoon for the IPL.

Mendis married his long-time girlfriend Nishani in March 2025. The couple got engaged in April last year. After the wedding, Mendis wrote a beautiful message on a card saying he found his soulmate in Nishani. Now, famous wedding planner Pathum Gunawardana revealed that Mendis canceled his honeymoon plans.

Gunawardana said Mendis and Nishani were supposed to go on a honeymoon in Haputale, Sri Lanka. They didn’t plan a foreign trip because Mendis had to make his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad. This shows how much Mendis loves cricket. He prioritized the IPL over his honeymoon.

In his debut match, Mendis scored 27 runs and took a wicket. He gave away just 4 runs in an over. Mendis is also known for bowling with both hands. But he couldn’t save Sunrisers Hyderabad from an 80-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. This was Hyderabad’s biggest loss in the Indian Premier League.
