The actress spoke honestly about the pain of attending the festivities without her beloved uncle, Deb Mukherjee.
Kajol posted several photos from the Durga Pandal on her Instagram account. In some, she stands gracefully before the magnificent Durga idol. Other pictures showed her surrounded by family, including Tanishaa, Ayan Mukherjee, and Rani Mukherjee. Yet, beneath the festive smiles, there was a quiet sorrow. Kajol explained in her caption that this year’s visit was tough. She mentioned that stepping into the pandal felt deeply emotional due to the loss in the family. It was a very difficult experience after last year’s absence, and she expressed how much everyone misses him.
A Family Legacy
Deb Mukherjee was a central figure in their family, known as the father of director Ayan Mukherjee. He was also a dear uncle to Kajol, Rani, and Tanishaa. He passed away at 83 years old on March 14, 2025. Each year, Deb Mukherjee traditionally organized the Durga Puja Pandal. Kajol has always been a regular at these celebrations, making his absence this year even more noticeable and poignant for the family.

Even while navigating personal loss, Kajol keeps a busy professional schedule. She is currently making headlines for the upcoming second season of her web show, ‘The Trial.’ Fans also recently saw her on the big screen in the film ‘Sarzameen,’ where she starred alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. On top of her acting roles, Kajol co-hosts the chat show ‘Too Much’ on Prime Video with Twinkle Khanna.
