Justin Thomas Returns to Scottish Open Amid Unprecedented Golf Controversy: Aberg’s Unusual Incident

Justin Thomas returns to Scottish Open as Aberg causes one of golf's strangest situations

PGA Tour: Justin Thomas Seizes Lead with Stunning 62 in Scottish Open

Justin Thomas has broken a 781-day drought without leading a PGA Tour tournament, securing the top spot in the Scottish Open after a breathtaking 62 in the first round.

Thomas, a two-time major winner, made it look effortless as he chain-chained five consecutive birdies from the 5th to the 10th holes. His iron play was accurate and precise, thanks to his mastery of irons.

Sunjae Im, from Korea, shot a 62 to take the second spot. Meanwhile, Ludvig Aberg made an intriguing move of the day when his ball hit Collin Morikawa’s ball on the 13th hole, resulting in both balls being thrown out. The situation was resolved on the course, and the PGA Tour later recalled the rule stating that there is no penalty for Morikawa and the ball must be replaced in its original place.

Rory McIlroy, the defending champion, had a positive performance, shooting a 65 and expressing that he has already moved on from his Pinehurst outcome. McIlroy was accompanied by two Ryder Cup teammates, Bob MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland.

Among the Spanish golfers, Jorge Campillo was the best with a 68, followed by Alexander of the King with a 69. Otaegui, Larrazabal, and Tarrio scored 70, while Arnaus and Elvira scored 71.

Justin Thomas’ 62 has propelled him to the top of the rankings, bringing an end to his 781-day drought without leading a PGA Tour tournament.
