Joan was adopted by Juan Gabriel and Laura Salas, along with his brothers. Alberto Aguilera Jr.
Juan Gabriel adopted Alberto Jr. when he was about 12 years old. Alberto had been living at the Semjase orphanage, which Juan Gabriel himself founded. Throughout his life, Alberto Jr. has faced various legal troubles. For example, in 2012, he was accused of harassment in El Paso, Texas, which led to a probation sentence and other penalties.
