Jos Verstappen Involved in Serious Accident at Ypres Rally

Jos Verstappen suffers a serious accident at the Ypres Rally

Jos Verstappen had a weekend to forget, unlike his son who celebrated a win in the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix and took the lead in the World Cup with 69 points ahead of Lando Norris. Meanwhile, the elder Verstappen was competing in the Ypres Rally, trying to emulate Carlos Sainz’s success in rallying.

However, his experience in the event, which marked his debut in rallying, did not help his participation end on a high note. He had a quite eventful rally, suffering a sudden puncture that set him back compared to his rivals.

Things took a turn for the worse on the final day when Verstappen lost control of his Skoda Fabia RS Rally 2 on the Kemmelberg section, causing the car to go upside down and crash into trees. The impact was strong enough to damage one of the front wheels and ruin the test for Verstappen and his co-driver, Renaud Jamoul.

A video taken from the front shows the accident scene, fortunately without any personal injuries reported. The final victory in the test, which featured notable drivers like Freddy Loix, went to French driver Stephane Lefebvre, who drove a Hyundai i20 Rally 2.
