Well, well, well, look who’s back! João Palhinha is officially back in London, donning the Spurs colors. Tottenham confirmed today that the Portuguese midfielder has joined them on a season-long loan. He’s coming over from Bayern Munich, and the agreement includes an option for Tottenham to buy him outright. The exact price for that option hasn’t been shared by the club yet.
But here’s where it gets interesting. According to Sky Sports, that buy-out clause is pegged at a cool €31 million. Now, if you’re keeping score, that’s a lot less than the €55 million Bayern Munich supposedly paid Tottenham just last year for the very same 30-year-old midfielder. Quite the turnaround, right?
Palhinha’s recent time at Bayern saw him feature in 25 matches during the 2024/25 season. However, he only started in 10 of those games. Clearly, he’s looking for more regular action.
