Jim Parsons Rules Out Big Bang Theory Reboot

Jim Parsons has addressed the possibility of a Big Bang Theory reboot, indicating he does not foresee it happening. The 52-year-old actor shared his thoughts with Us Weekly at the American Ballet Theatre’s 2025 fall gala.

"I don’t imagine it," Parsons stated. He clarified, "Well, I could imagine it, but no, I don’t imagine it."

Despite over six years passing since the series concluded in 2019, Parsons holds numerous special memories from his time on the show. He reflected on the initial season, specifically a writers’ strike that occurred after seven or eight episodes.

Parsons recalled the cast’s disappointment, fearing the strike would lead to an early cancellation. He noted it wasn’t about job security but their deep enjoyment and belief in the show’s potential.

This difficult period ultimately benefited the series. Parsons explained that more viewers discovered the show through reruns, leading to even greater success upon its return.

He added that everyone recognized the show’s special quality early on. They felt lucky that external business "quirks" did not derail its promising future.

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons, with Parsons starring as the brilliant physicist Sheldon Cooper. The cast included Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Melissa Rauch, and Kevin Sussman.

The CBS comedy earned four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series. Parsons himself won four Emmy Awards for his iconic portrayal of Sheldon.

The Big Bang Theory universe expanded with the prequel Young Sheldon, which premiered in 2017. That series concluded in May 2024, aligning its timeline with the original show.

Iain Armitage led Young Sheldon alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, Annie Potts, Wyatt McClure, Matt Hobby, and Emily Osment.

A third series, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, launched in October 2024. It follows Sheldon’s older brother Georgie Cooper, played by 22-year-old Montana Jordan, and his wife Mandy McAllister, played by 33-year-old Emily Osment.

The second episode of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 is scheduled to air Thursday, October 23, at 8 PM ET on CBS. Previous episodes are available for streaming on Paramount+.
