Jackson extends signature with Memphis 4 years, 105 million

The Memphis Grizzlies agreed to a contract extension with Jaren Jackson Jr. before the deadline set by the NBA expired.

The team did not disclose the terms of the contract with the fourth pick in the 2018 draft on Monday. ESPN reported the extension is for four years and $ 105 million.

The 22-year-old Jackson has started 117 of his 126 games in three seasons, averaging 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in nearly 27 minutes per game. The power forward has made 213 3s and blocked 192 shots, the most of any NBA player in his first 126 games.

He also ranks second in franchise history in blocks per game and ranks 10th in total blocks despite playing just 11 games last season as he was recovering from knee surgery.

Jackson was only the second player to be named both Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season at Michigan State. After being selected by Memphis, he entered the NBA’s first rookie team in the 2018-19 season. He was also selected to the NBA’s rising all-star team in 2019 and 2020.

In his second season, Jackson scored 43 points, the most of his career, and equaled the franchise record after making nine 3-pointers against Milwaukee on Dec. 13, 2019. That made him the youngest player in league history. NBA with 20 years and 83 days of age to make at least nine triples in a game.
