IVG: What are activists and volunteers asking for?

Adopted at first reading in the National Assembly, rejected by the senators, then returned to the agenda of the Assembly, before being finally withdrawn at the last moment … For a year, the bill “aimed at strengthening the right to abortion ”has had an eventful course. While a pro-abortion demonstration is being held this Saturday, what are the activists and volunteers asking for concretely? Report in a family planning.

Lauriane is a family planning doctor in Paris. She sees women aged 16 to 45 who choose the drug method. For the majority of them, abortion is a taboo subject.

“Often they are afraid that there is a trace, that it is marked somewhere because again, it is taboo, there is a negative connotation that remains on it. Some women have told us very harsh sentences from their gynecologists, ”explains Lauriane.

Chantal, meanwhile, has been a family planning volunteer for 10 years. Every day, she has women online for whom abortion has become banned because they have passed the legal deadline.

“Some are close to twenty weeks, and there it is more worrying. You have to go abroad, pay, move ”.

French law limits recourse to the right to abortion to 12 weeks, against 22 for most of our European neighbors. For the association, extending the deadline in France is an absolute priority. This is what Bénédicte Paoli, member of the national family planning office, says. Every year, between 3,000 and 5,000 women have to go abroad to have an abortion.
