Italian outdoor adventure platform Freedome is making its debut in Spain, bringing its vast network of outdoor experiences to the country. Founded in 2019, Freedome has become a household name in Italy, serving nearly 400,000 customers and partnering with over 1,500 professional operators.
The company’s entry into Spain is driven by the country’s diverse geography, rich natural resources, and the growing appetite for outdoor activities. Freedome plans to replicate its successful Italian model, aiming to become a leading player in Spain’s active tourism market. The platform will offer a wide range of outdoor experiences tailored to both local and foreign tourists.
Michele Mezzanzanica, co-founder of Freedome, said the company’s expansion into Spain is a significant milestone. He emphasized Freedome’s commitment to financial stability and sustainability, ensuring the best outdoor experiences for local operators and users.
Initial Presence in Eight Regions
Freedome has launched operations in several Spanish regions with high potential for active tourism. The initial regions include Valencia, Madrid, Catalonia, Ceuta, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Castile and León, and Extremadura. These areas offer a diverse range of outdoor activities, from water sports to mountain experiences. Manuel Siclari, co-founder, noted that the goal is to achieve a national presence with a variety of activity categories.
José Miguel Correas Oliver, manager of an Alicante-based multi-adventure park, is one of Freedome’s first partners in Spain. He welcomed the opportunity to reach new audiences while maintaining a commitment to offering unforgettable experiences in nature.
A Growing Market Needing Digitalization
Spain’s outdoor experience market is rich but fragmented, similar to Italy’s before Freedome’s arrival. The platform aims to organize and make accessible the diverse range of outdoor activities, promoting professionalism and digitalization in the sector. Freedome offers direct booking and gift cards, catering to various consumption occasions.
Susanna Moroni, who runs a hot air balloon company in Barcelona, is excited about the partnership. She believes Freedome will help reach a younger audience and boost sales. Both Moroni and Correas praised the ease and quality of the onboarding process.
Local Impact, Sustainable Tourism, and Economic Growth
Freedome is committed to territorial development. In Italy, 55% of booked activities take place in rural areas, positively impacting the local economy and promoting sustainable tourism. More than half of Italian partners combine outdoor experiences with local gastronomy and wine, supporting local producers and restaurants.
Data from Freedome shows that over 20% of Italian operators have seen a 20% increase in revenue after partnering with the platform, and three in ten have hired new staff in the past 12 months. Spanish operators are also optimistic about the benefits.
Growth Expectations in Spain
Freedome aims to build a strong network of local operators in Spain, replicating its Italian success. The company expects a positive impact on employment, local economies, and active tourism. The European outdoor sector generates around €15 billion annually, and Freedome is poised to capture a significant share of the Spanish market.
Award-Winning Innovation and Growth
Freedome has been recognized in 2024 as one of LinkedIn’s Top Startups in Italy, Sifted 50 Southern Europe, and Sifted 250 Europe’s Fastest-Growing Startups. The company boasts a 4.7/5 rating on Trustpilot, based on over 2,000 reviews. With its expansion into Spain, Freedome is set to become a leading player in Europe’s outdoor experiences market, driving local economic development and promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle.
