Israel - Premier Tech signs Pozzovivo at the age of 40

The Israel – Premier Tech team has announced this Tuesday the signing of the Italian cyclist Domenico Pozzovivo, who lands in the team at the age of 40s and after several seasons proving that he can still fight in the grand tours with the favorites for the general classification.

Pozzovivo, 40, arrives at the Israel Premier Tech after competing in the ranks of the Intermarché in 2022 where, despite his age, he managed to finish eighth overall in the Giro d’Italia and ninth in the Tour of Switzerland as well as being third in the Giro dell’Emilia, fifth in the Agostoni Cup and eighth in Tres Valles Varesinos.

In statements collected by the Israel Premier Tech, Pozzovivo celebrated his arrival in the team to continue competing as a professional. “It is a great achievement to join this team to repair those hard months of training without a team, but at the same time it has been a starting point to build a good season. I start a little later than normal but with the same motivation”.

A Pozzovivo who, almost certainly, will start again in the Giro d’Italia. “The Giro is one of my main goals for the season, the goal is to be in the Top-10. I think it is a very important result, if we take into account my age and also everything that has happened in my career in terms of accidents and recovery. But the Giro is not my only objective of the season. I think I can also compete in the general in important races of one week during the season and also to be in good condition for the last classics in Italy, especially the Giro di Lombardia, which is a race that I really like. I want to thank Israel Premier Tech for believing in me, and especially Valentino Sciotti from Fantni who encouraged me to join the team and who convinced the directors of my qualities.”

In this way Pozzovivo will give more experience if possible to a Israel – Premier Tech that already has in its ranks Simon Clarke (36 years old), Chris Froome (37), Jakob Fuglsang (37), Ben Hermans (36), Daryl Impey (38) and Michael Woods (36), and who want to show that experience is a degree… and can help them achieve great victories in the peloton.
