In a brief statement at 4:07 a.m. local time on Friday, the Israeli army said it was currently attacking Lebanon. A Lebanese TV station reported an explosion near a refugee camp in the southern Lebanese port city of Sor.

A few hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a video message that his country’s enemies “must pay for any aggression”.

Israeli forces have targeted at least five locations in Gaza. The sites include the Beit Henon farmland in northern Gaza, two areas south of Gaza City, the eastern farmland of al-Zaytun area near Gaza City, and an area east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

Netanyahu recently announced a response to Lebanon’s rocket attacks. After that, Israeli forces started airstrikes in Gaza.

The operation comes amid rising tensions over attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinian worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem and their expulsion from the holy site during Ramadan prayers.
