Islamic State Bans Christmas Greetings to Christians

Islamic State’s Stance on Congratulating Christians During Holidays

The Islamic State, also known as Isis or Daesh, has expressed its disapproval of Muslims congratulating Christians on Christmas holidays. In its official publication, “Al Naba,” the group considers recognizing Christian holidays, such as Christmas, to be haram, or inadmissible.

Prohibition by Islamic Law

According to the editorial, congratulating Christians on their religious festivals is prohibited by Islamic law. The group states, “Congratulating Christians on their religious festivals of disbelief is prohibited by Islamic law.” This stance is unrelated to Quranic guidance on the fair treatment of peaceful non-Muslims.

Conditions for Coexistence

The Islamic State questions whether Christians have met the conditions for coexistence under Islamic rule, such as paying jizya (tax on non-Muslims) and adhering to Islamic rules. Even if these conditions are met, the group argues that it would still not be permissible to congratulate Christians on their festivities, as these are rituals of their “false religion.”

Love and Hatred for the Cause of Allah

The group emphasizes that love and hatred for the cause of Allah are fundamental principles in Islam. Celebrating non-Islamic holidays, such as Christmas, compromises this principle. The editorial states, “The basis of Islam is love and hatred for the cause of Allah: loving faith and detesting disbelief.”

A Warning to Those Who Disregard the Warnings

The Islamic State concludes with a warning to those who disregard its warnings and signs. The group states that those who fail to heed these warnings will ultimately be guided by the sword of Jesus, the servant and messenger of Allah.
