IPL Opening Ceremony May Be Ruined by Rain in Kolkata

The stage is set for the highly anticipated 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with the opening match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore scheduled to take place on March 22. However, the excitement surrounding the event may be dampened by the looming threat of rain.

Imagine the buzz of the crowd, the thrill of the opening ceremony, and the electrifying performances by renowned artists like Karan Aujla, Shreya Ghoshal, and Disha Patani – all potentially ruined by a downpour. The Met department has issued an orange alert for several areas in the city, indicating a high likelihood of heavy rainfall from March 20 to 22.

As the big day approaches, fans are getting anxious. The IPL has confirmed that the opening ceremony will kick off at 6 pm, an hour before the toss. But with a 70% chance of rain predicted for the morning and 40% for the evening, the prospect of a rain-free event seems bleak.

Rain Threat Looms Large

The weather forecast suggests that the rain may not just ruin the opening ceremony but also disrupt the match itself. If it rains before the game, the start might be delayed, but the ceremony could be cancelled altogether. Even if the rain clears up by the evening, the ground staff will have their work cut out to get the stadium ready for the match.

In a tweet, the IPL announced Karan Aujla’s performance at the opening ceremony, saying he would “light up” the event. Similarly, another tweet revealed that Disha Patani would “set the stage ablaze” with her performance.
